Once a year, fortune cookies, hong baos, chinese lanterns, and tikoys take us miles away from our hometown and slip us into another realm called the Lunar New Year. The interconnected forces between Yin and Yang grow stronger it seems. And movies deeply rooted in Chinese culture like Mano Po and Kungfu Panda get longer airtime on television. Yes, Chinese New Year is one of the most celebrated festivals in the Philippines for the Chinese and non-Chinese alike. And luckily, ours, was spent like royalties at the Midas Hotel and Casino.

We arrived earlier than expected and as soon as we met Doms Leones, the Marketing Manager of Midas Hotel and Casino, our eventful weekend took off.

We love the intricate details at the 2702 Lounge

We received a warm and sweet welcome at the beautifully arranged ground floor lobby with complementary drinks from 2702 Lounge.

Shortly after our arrival, and after a brief bonding session with our new found friend, the new year festivities began.

The celebration started with a colorful and entertaining Dragon dance ceremony, with full attendance from the hotel management and staff.

The Dragon Dance started with the Dotting Ritual to give life to the Lion and to empower it to fulfill its duties

The cymbals, gong, and drums that accompany the dance of the lion is believed to scare the monsters, ghosts, evil spirits away

They paraded all floors so that day, we felt sure that all bad spirits have been warded off the hotel.

We wanted to have our pictures taken with the legendary lion for good luck, so we decided to wait for the last leg of the ceremony at the Sunset Lounge.

What is Chinese New Year without fortune cookies? We opened ours at the hotel’s Sunset Lounge.

We would have stayed longer at the lounge had we not been advised that our rooms were all set, waiting for our arrival. Of course, who were we to resist?

The 4 of us of shared 2 rooms -> One Jr. Executive Grande Room and one Executive Room.

And aside from the beds (of course!), these are what we enjoyed in our rooms:

For lunch, we wanted to take Doms to one of our favorite restaurants at the Mall of Asia, which is by the way just a few kilometers away from the hotel (so convenient the location of Midas!). But truth be told, when we saw the rooms and the comfort we felt the moment we stepped in, we knew we didn’t want to leave anymore. In fact, Mart, one of The Foodie Station’s correspondents, called dibs on the floor. For him, the carpet felt just as warm and cozy.

We still had lunch anyway. Because the force in our stomachs was stronger. lol

It was around 3 pm when we got back to the hotel. And for the rest of the afternoon, we enjoyed the different amenities Midas Hotel and Casino had to offer.

Our spa experience will be featured in a separate blog post. But for a preview.. look how pretty everything looks.

Just before sunset, we enjoyed a sumptuous snack at the Sunset Lounge that comes for free with all Executive Rooms. Everything was perfect from top to bottom and start to finish – from the setup and arrangement of furniture up to the preparation and presentation of food!

We tried so hard to save our appetite for dinner but honestly, with heavenly food and drinks set in front of us, dinner must wait, right?!

Not everyone can say that they’ve climbed to the roofdeck of a 4 Star Hotel and enjoyed the sunset from the top of the world but we know we can! We had the best seats for this year’s Chinese New Year sunset and we have Doms and Midas Hotel and Casino to thank for the priceless experience.

As if our day wasn’t already eventful enough, we knew our buffet dinner was still around the corner waiting to be devoured.

Untitled

And even if we had been eating almost the entire day, we very much welcomed the buffet dinner from Midas Cafe.. which was extra special that evening because the hotel was celebrating the Chinese New Year.

We had unlimited heaps of lobster and oysters that night, along with other fresh seafood and meat produce that we can have cooked anyway we wanted.

We had our lobsters grilled in butter and garlic, and had overflowing cheese for the oysters!

We leave it up to you to judge us for our choices that evening.. but we are pretty sure you would have done the same!

We were so full and tired when we went back to our rooms and there was nothing better to do than take a long, hot shower to calm our senses and to prepare us for deep slumber.

We all had a long but satisfying day and we definitely deserved a good night’s rest. Thankfully, Midas Hotel and Casino knew exactly what we needed and the fluffy sheets and piles of pillows on our snug hotel beds of clouds and marshmallows were the perfect ending to our perfect day.

Untitled

Long restful sleep. Peace and quiet. Exactly as promised by Midas Hotel and Casino! We woke up rather late the next day. But who wouldn’t when obviously, the gravitational pull of the bed was so hard to combat! The downside to a comfortable bed is almost missing breakfast. Midas Cafe was serving breakfast only until 10:30 am and it was a good thing we were able to catch the last 30 minutes of the buffet. We took to heart the saying “Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and supper like a pauper”, and enjoyed our breakfast as kings and queens would do. *Our breakfast buffet experience will be featured separately. 🙂

The fact That Midas Hotel has just taken over an old structure built years before the hotel was even established proves that how they fully restored and transformed an old space into a fresh and modern look was excellently executed (and achieved!). We noted a few things here and there that may be improved to up their hotel game but overall, we have no complaints. Our expectations were exceeded and after spending our CNY weekend at the hotel, we could proudly say “Job Well Done, Midas!”
