A trip to Poblacion Makati wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Commune. After a long night of eating and hanging out at Beermatch, we made sure that we ended the day right with a good cup of coffee and a filling dessert. We’ve been hearing good things about this place so we thought we’d drop by.
For a Friday night, we expected the place to be crowded but there was only actually a handful of people. We’re guessing everyone was still out partying or perhaps we arrived a bit late. Nonetheless, we were thrilled to be there.
The cafe was well lit and despite the high ceiling (which we loved), the atmosphere was friendly and cozy. Tables were well arranged giving a more spacious feel to the place.
We found it cute that the counter was positioned at the center of the store.
Staying true to its name, Commune (to talk over or discuss) is a place we know we can easily spend long hours at, over a cup of coffee and meaningful conversations.
Aside from being a Cafe, Commune also hosts special events and gatherings at the spacious second level called UPSTAIRS. Book here now.
With all the help we received from the servers, it wasn’t really hard to decide on what to get. We finally settled for their best seller – the Freshly Baked Apple Pie + Carmen’s Best Madagascar Vanilla Ice Cream. For coffee, we got their Capuccino and Cafe Mocha. We couldn’t make up our minds for the latte art so the barista surprised us with a 3d Capuccino octopus and a 2d Cafe Mocha peacock! We were so delighted with the designs that at first, we were hesitant to drink up. Commune brews 100% Arabica Single Origin from Bansalan Davao Del Sur, Matutum South Cotabato, Katapagan Davao Del Sur, and Benguet Cordillera so we know we will always be served high grade premium coffee.
We could tell that quality ingredients were used for the apple pie. It was rich, and a bit thick but creamy at the same time. The tiny apple bits gave the pie a more engaging texture. For people who don’t normally order apple pies, we actually enjoyed this one. The ice cream on top was the perfect note to the dessert. We have yet to try apple pies from other establishments to accurately assess where Commune stands.
It was past closing time when we left but the servers didn’t seem bothered at all to have been kept waiting. Everyone was friendly and accommodating and for that alone, we would keep coming back. But then again, we haven’t tried any of Commune’s hearty meals so we’ll definitely be paying them another visit hopefully soon!
